Macedonia is a small country located on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe, sparsely populated, and not very popular with tourists, but it is heavily forested and very mountainous, its highest point reaching almost 10,000 feet. Considered the "heart of the Balkans", it is home to some of the best Balkan chamois in Europe, and also has large populations of wolves and wild boar, mouflon, fallow deer, roe deer and red deer. Hunters from all over the world are very attracted to the Kri-Kri ibex, brought to Macedonia from the islands of Greece, where it is the main trophy. They also hunt for wild cats, ratska sheep, and Barbary sheep.
The difficulty of the hunt varies depending on the trophy. Hunters looking for a mountain experience will find the high rugged peaks where Balkan chamois, mouflon and ibex are hunted, which can be difficult, especially when the snow is deep. There are also many hilly and flat areas where wild boar, deer and other game live. They mostly hunt from the approach. Boars can be hunted by driving, and wolves can be hunted by bait.
